audio/video and Component Cables

I know that when using component cables (red, green, blue) that they provide a hell alot better picture quality compare to audio/video cable plugs. Im just curious, right now my dad has his dvd player hooked into his tv through the audio/video cables. I have a spare set of audio video cables lying around. Can i just use my spare ones and plug them in to the component plugs on tv and dvd player? Im assuming they'll work just fine. Or is there an diffrence betweem audio/video cables and component cables?

yeah... most of them work... something about 75ohms needed as a minimum, but I've never had a problem

Yep, they work just fine. Most decent RCA Composite + Audio cables are 75 ohms anyways, tis what I use for connecting my cable box to my ViewSonic N5, works like a charm. No need to pay for "component" cables, in the end its all an RCA cable.

They are normally not the same.

component cables are 75 ohms and have the required bandwidth for video.

with the red/white/yellow cables you have no idea. Sure it will work, but you may not get the best quality.
