I have 2 things I want plugged in at all times - headphones and speakers.
My motherboard is a gigabyte DS3R which has 6 audio plugs.

anyways, I want to be able to switch between which device the sound is going to, and not have to actually unplug/replug stuff. My old mobo had some sort of software that actually allowed me to do this.

Anyways, I have no clue what to do, hopefully someone will know :)
thanks

You can pick up a hardware switch for around $20 in an electronics or radio store.

I have a nice set of speakers and good headphones that I like to have connected to my soundcard at all times so I can flip between CS:S and listening to music. CS:S requires headphones and I hate listening to music on headphones. To solve this issue, I simply got a Y adapter for a couple bucks at Radio Shack and that was it. The headphones have an in-line volume control and the speakers have volume knobs so I can silence either one of the two if I want.

Handy, and you don't need to deal with flipping a switch. Plus, you can have both going at the same time -- great for feeling the subwoofer blow across your feet when someone is firing the AWP in CS:S but you still want the headphones on to hear footsteps and other small audio details.

Radio Shack sells 2 devices specifically intended for switching between audio sources (one can also switch between audio outputs), as well as a variety of audio/video switches (they use RCA jacks) that would suffice with an adapter. Any electronics store will have the latter. The Radio Shack audio switches are even advertised to do what you are looking for.

Note that those devices are generally only built to switch 2 channels of audio (right and left). If you have fancier surround speakers, you would either need to look for a fancier device, hack something together, or buy new speakers with a switchable headphone jack built in.

I didnt really mean an actual switch. I meant a way to change which input sound is going to through software, not hardware.
There are 6 plugs in the mobo. I know 1 is microphone, 1 is the normal audio, not sure what the others are.
I know on my old mobo I could have both speakers and headset plugged into different jacks and specify which jack the audio will go to via software that came with it.
