Am i in the right place to post this topic...?

I am currently using an outdated POS system from MicronPC. I'm heading off to college this Fall and I need a new machine! I would like some help/advice in the audio/sound department. I'm mainly a FPS gamer...not a lot of money to spend...first year of college w/ grades in mind

A) Klipsch Promedia 2.1 w/ SB Live! Value
B) Logitech SoundMan Xtrusio w/ SB Live! Value

What combo would best suit my situation:
More expensive, better quality 2.1 system; or the cheaper 4.1 system?

Would the SB Live! Value work for a 4.1 system just as well it would a 2.1? Also, is there really no differeence between the Value and X-Gamer cards, besides bundled software?

Please provide feedback...THANKS!

Ummm...if i were in your shoes i'd definitely go with the Klipsch...but that's just me...and yah a Live would work...and there is no difference between a x-gamer(non 5.1 version) and value(non 5.1 version) except for the bundled software.

I would go with the Klipsch also. For cheap 4.1 I would rather get the BA4800s.

I didn't know there werer 5.1 Versions and NON 5.1 versions of SB Live! Cards.

But to make sure...SB Live! Value (non 5.1v) will work great for both 2.1 and 4.1 speakers?

Thanks!

Yes, The SBLive value will work with both 2.1 and 4.1 set ups. It just does not support 5.1.

Why don't you get whatever sounds good to YOU instead of asking strangers? Would you buy a car in this way?

I only use Cambridge Soundworks and Bose speakers, but what sounds good to me, definitely will sound different for you. Find a place that has speakers for you to test and check em out.

But since you'll take advice...If you're wary of spending too much, spend $30 and get the Cambridge Soundworks PC Works :)
