Audio Skips Everywhere!

How do I stop skipping?

SBLive Mp3 5.1
Celeron 633 OC@792
384 MB RAM
Win2k

More info:

Device Manager shows now IRQ conflicts.

I had bought the SBlive to replace my old Siig which also skipped.

I have tried different speakers/headphones with no change.

Thank you in advance for whatever help you can give me. This problem is most annoying.

were both cards installed in the same slot? if so, move it to another one...i very much doubt this would help, but i don't have any other ideas...

it is very odd that on that system it should be skipping, you have MORE than enough ram and cpu power. Changing the pci slot is a very good idea, sometimes they cause problems. Also try playing around with the hardware buffer sizes, and see if that helps at all. And is it in specific programs, or in everything that uses the sound card?

Cause i am running a soundblaster live mp3+ (not the 5.1 version) on win2k with 128mb and a PIII 720Mhz, and it runs perfect.

And on a side note, i dont think head phones or speakers would help with a skipping sounds card.

Try turning down the hardware acceleration (control panel, sounds and multimedia, audio, advanced and performance)

Thank you very much for the responses 😀

I shall try switching PCI slots and I'll let you know if it works!

and knutp, I have tried to fool with the audio levels to no avail. Thanks again all with your help! I will update asap

Sorry for that delay.

I tried switching PCI Slots. The skipping persists 🙁

Any idea why? thanks in advance again

have you tried going to their website and getting a new driver? also the idea of turning down the acceleration is a good one, try that

do you have any old soundcards laying around you could put in? this would narrow it down to a soundcard problem or an operating system problem

I actually have this same exact problem... I didn't always, it just happened one day and I have never figured it out... It only seems to occur when using Winamp, though i haven't tried any other mp3 decoders nor have i bothered to increase the priority.

I thought it may have been from data corruption because when it first started to occur is when I had recovered all my mp3s from a networked machine that i was using to backup my hard drives...

Nevertheless, I've moved my sb live! to another PCI slot and that didn't do anything, maybe it will for uncouth though
