I have an Acer TravelMate 4500, and have had it for ~2 years. Over the last week or so, the audio has started skipping in just about every audio application I use:
Windows Media Player: w/ CDs, with Mp3s
RealPlayer: Mainly use this to listen to the news on NPR and Democracynow via downloadable audio formats.
Oh, but I have not noticed it happening in Quicktime.
The skipping is very regular, it skips once every ~2 seconds. The skipping sounds identical to skipping with a scratched CD, except that it has happened with most of my CDs and many other downloaded audio files. Occasionally, the skipping does not occur, but I would say it happens about 80% of the time.
I have downloaded and reinstalled my audio drivers, this did not solve the problem.
I found a lot of posts recently about this very thing happening in Windows Vista, but I am using Windows XP w/ SP2.
The only major program that I installed recently was Cygwin, which I subsequently uninstalled as it did not solve an unrelated issue I was using it for.
Specs:
TravelMate 4502LMi
Pentium M 725 Processor
512 MB RAM
40GB hard drive w/ 9.5 GB free
Onboard audio and video
(Edit: This is my desktop listed below in my signature, not to be confused with my laptop above)
