Audio recorders - Where the hell are they?

So, I need to get my hands on a small portable device that would allow me to record audio to some sort of solid state or removable storage (digital) so I can easily burn it to a CD. I just want the thing to have, essentially, a microphone and storage capabilities so that I can capture sounds/voice from a room...nothing fancy or professional or M-Audio or whatever.

I used to have a cheap MP3 player that did this, even. Anyone know of something currently on the market that would suit this purpose? Be it an an mp3 player, standalone recorder with CF cards or something, whatever, just some leads would be great.

Most of the Creative MP3 players used to be able to do this. Not sure if they still do. I recorded a 3 hour concert on my Nomad back in the day :)

it's the canadian site. I can't find the recorders on the US one... they have different products? but anyway recorders are fairly common. most electronics stores should have them.

Excellent. I'm sure one of those will be more than adequate...

Fritzo: Yeah, the one I used to have was indeed an early Nomad from Creative. No idea where the damn thing is anymore though...
