well i have been thinking about getting the Logitech Z-560's i have heard nothign but the best about these, but i have two speaker cabs. from my old componet stereo, ( 2.5", 5 1/4" 10") the stereo was fried by a lighting stike awhile back, but the speakers still work great. i was wondering if i should get a new receiver for around $150 for the speaker cabinets, or spend the 150 on the Z-560's ??

cheese out....

Or pick up a used receiver in your area for $20-50. I use an old Kenwood rcvr and a CD player and a couple of Infinity 2000.3 speakers for my home office PC when gaming, the rest of the time they play the radio or CD player (since I don't care about hearing normal Windows sounds like browser clicks). Works great for me.

Other sources are uBid.com (refurb & closeout, but shipping is high), Crutchfield.com scratch-n-dent deals, and check your local paper and/or .forsale. usenet newsgroup since people have to do something with their old receiver after they buy a new THX Ultra rig for $2K :)

i got the z-560s just today, it is everything that i expected after reading numerous reviews. Awesome.

I dont know if it will sound better than a componet stereo. but i can tell you that my friend's denon avr1802/energy take 5 HT system, which is a decent entry level HT system at around $1000, sounds only a tiny bit better than the z560 in the high range.
