I have a question for people that know about audio encoding and listening.
Suppose you have a Stereo source, and you want to play it on your 5.1 surround sound system. This isn't really for music. I like being surrounded by sound rather than have most of my speakers going to waste, so don't convince me to stick to stereo.
I am able to upmix the stereo source into a 5.1 Dolby AC3 stream. This is easy as I just duplicate the left and right channels (and possibly add reverb) to make those the rear channels, center channel I make from a combination and the LFE channel is based on all sounds in a certain low range. It sounds pretty good on my surround sound system.
The alternative I found, is to have a stereo AC3 stream and enable Dolby Pro Logic processing on my theater system, which does a similar process of upmixing it seems.
