Audio question concerning microphones

I put a nice, though low end pioneer hu in my mom's car a few days ago. Touch screen with bluetooth for audio and hands-free qnd i just realized just today it uses an external microphone. It it possible to use any mic with a mini jack or do I need the specific Pioneer one?

Hu is the avh-200bt model.

Usually you need the specific one due to connector/calibration issues.

I disagree. Any external mic with the proper mini jack will work. Granted the one that came with the unit was probably the best option, but any external hands free mic should work with no issues.

I'm only asking because it didn't actually come with one. I do have a couple of lapel pin-type minijack mics to try, but I don't want to spend time to take apart the dash and remove the radio to try them out.

If anybody can tell me they won't work, I will just buy the Pioneer one from Amazon and wait till I get it and the ASW1C steering wheel control interface and factory antenna connector, and do it all at once.

IMO and experience If they have the same minijack size it should work just fine.

It should have come with a microphone. I had a Pioneer BT stereo installed in my last car and it came with a mic. I ran it up the A pillar, under the plastic trim panel, and had the mic mounted right at the top of the A pillar on the driver's side. Works great in that location.

I may be wrong, I have been out of car audio for a while. If you're willing to take it apart to hook it up anyways there's no harm in trying, not like you need to route the whole cable to test them.

The microphone comes with the radio as far as I can tell.

Mics can have wildly different sensitivities. That said if you can find the part number on the mic you can probably google the specs and find one that matches.
