Audio Question/Advice - Possible Upgrade

Hey -

I was thinking about perhaps adding some bass to my Kilpsch 2.0's...I'm happy with the sound (Except when I try to crank it, and some distortion occurs).

You think it would be advisable to buy a sub and a chintzy reciever (or some other way to hook them up)? I'm definetly no good/not that knowledgable when it comes to hooking up all this stuff and the different methods out there.

My other option would be to just buy a 2.1 system like the Kilpsch ifi.

Kind of sucks, because I like the sound I'm getting from these speakers, but I'm definetly missing out on some things.

I'm not looking to spend that much ~$200

Anyways, suggestions?
Thanks.

I don't think you are going to get much for $200 if we also have to get an amplifier...

I would favor just getting a new 2.1 setup for ease of setup and compactness.

Maybe for $300 then I would consider getting a sub+receiver...but it would be much better than the speakers its paired with..not the best combo...

Hmm... You could buy an stereo 2-way active crossover, sub driver, and amp, with the enclosure built yourself. Unfortunately, I don't see how you could get decent stuff with a budget of $200.

I'm his room mate. I originally suggested the AV123 X-LS ($200) and a Sonic T-amp or receiver (both would be at least $60 either way), so this is getting close to $300 range.

Athena and T-amp, I think think it would be nice but I used to own Athenas B2s and I really didn't think they were that much of an upgrade over decent computer speakers (although I personally think the F2 floorstanders are very nice). It's hard to fit amp+bookshelves to around $200 and meet the bass requirements that would be equal to say, the 8" iFi (I would say its virtually impossible, but the X-LS + amp is pretty close, maybe off by 5-6hz in terms of linear extention).

The iFi is always a possibility. I think he'll try to get a listen to it at some point but I'm not sure where you can audition these things. I think they are packaged up in boxes at most places, including the apple store (or so I heard offhand).
