Hopefully you guys can help me..

Ive got a DX58SO motherboard. Everything working great, but I had to switch out CPU coolers. Ive got that done, and now its telling me I have no audio devices? Ive got my speakers plugged in, and ive got the audio drivers installed.

I have tried enabling/disabling Intel HD Audio in BIOS, it didnt help. I have disabled, enabled, uninstalled, and installed the hardware through device manager. Didnt help. Ive updated and reinstalled drivers, didnt help. The only difference i see is that the SPDIF connection is lit up now, and it wasnt before. What do i need to do to make it work?

Thanks for the help!

Also tried resetting CMOS to default.. Didnt help. Restoring Vista to a point where it was working didn't help either

Do i need to have the HD Audio connector from my case connected? I'm using the back audio, not the front.

So are you using the SPDIF connector or are you using the green analog connecter in the back?

In Vista you have to make sure the default sound device is set correctly or else you may not have heard anything. This should be set to the "speakers" and not the SPDIF interface I assume for you setup.

It's quite possible you have everything working correctly but just were not hearing any sounds from the device because it was set to the wrong one.

I am using the analog connections, not the spdif. I don't have a default sound device set because vista says there is no sound card at all, let alone any speakers..

Audio is enabled in BIOS, so that's not the problem.

I just got home from work, and realized i left something out. High definition audio controller is shown in the device manager.. If i "uninstall it" Windows automatically reinstalls it. However, if i try to install the RealTek drivers they "install" but after the required reboot they are nowhere to be found.

Are you sure that motherboard has Realtek HD audio controller on it?

I was under the impression that it had a Sigmatel (IDT) 9274D.

Newer revisions may have switched to Realtek I don't know.

I had the same problem for a while with an install of Win 7, oddly, replacing my video card fixed the problem. I'd update other drivers too just to be sure there isn't some weird conflict and also try a really old HD Audio driver.

Ok, will do. I have an approved RMA from Intel already so if i dont get it working today its going back. Thankfully they will crossship, and overnight so it will only take a day to get a replacement!

EDIT: Uninstalled all drivers, reinstalled them in this order: Chipset, Audio, GPU. Still no dice.. Looks like its gonna be heading back to Intel

Did your video card have some sort of HDMI out audio component?

It appears like coxmaster must have a dud CODEC chip.

Coxmaster, you said you switched out the CPU Cooler, was the audio working before that?

No HDMI out audio..

I did switch out the CPU cooler, and everything was working before that. Im probably going to pay to 20$ or whatever and have intel cross-ship my RMA
