Audio Problems on MSI K8NGM2-FID

I have searched and searched but found nothing that relates to my question.

I bought this board last year based on the information from the thread in Mothboards so I want to thank everyone for their input. I only recently decided to hook up some speakers as this computer is primarily a photo editing PC. I have found myselof using it more and more though and less of my laptop. I am having trouble getting sound out of the LineOut jack on the board. I am using some basic Polk Audio speakers (non-powered) and getting very little output. I also tried another set that I know played fine on my dad's PC. Headphones also play fine. I am wondering if powered speakers are required? I have an MSI board on my work PC as well with similar issues. Is this a typical requirement for MSI boards? My dad just picked up a new ASUS board with similar chipsets and has non-powered speakers that play just fine.

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

'Line Out' outputs are very low level, typically getting to about 125mV output. Passive speakers need several volts output to be clearly audible.

You either need to feed the line out to an amplifier or get a pair of powered speakers.

That is what I figured. It would be nice if somewhere in MSI's documentation they would mention this. I assumed it but wanted to make sure. Thanks.
