I'm trying to compress a video I made which is like 2 GB to divx so I can upload it to youtube, but now the audio is not in sync. It seems every time I want to do something with video I get a different issue and need a different program.

Anyone know of a universal program that takes any file, and compresses it to divx or any known format, and works each time the same way?

Oh yeah and if a Linux program will do what I want, I'm open to that as long as its command line so I can run it off my server. Would even be better as its not taking up my PC's resources that way.

I found one called transcode, but I did not try it yet, anyone ever try it? I'm hoping I wont run into dependency issues though.

Tried pretty much every combination of settings. No go. Either it crashes half way through or just wont encode properly. Transcode also wont work on my server, theres like 10 dependancies right off the bat... I'm not playing that dependancy hierarchy game.

I did find that premiere does in fact have the option to export to divx, so I'm trying that now. I was told premiere was not meant for this though, and probably the cause of it crashing on me half way through. But this time all the cuts are somewhat uncompressed video (well whatever Snag It produces, as most of the video comes from that) so I'll see if this ends up working out. Takes long to render so I have to wait and do it overnight.

No luck. Crashed 1/10th through as I figured. Next thing to try is importing it in flashmx... all this work just to convert a video. I need a mac...

Managed to get it working. Not sure what I did different. I outputed it to DV with premiere as its about the only option that wont crash, then I took the DV, put it in virtualdub, set it to divX and set audio to mpeg layer 3 (same as mp3?) and let it go and the result was about 50MB and decent quality.
