SOLVED :

Hey guys,
I've searched this forum for a while but this is the first time I have had to create a post for something and this one is making me want to pull out my hair.
I'm no IT pro but I would say I am pretty good around a pc and software for troubleshooting purposes, but the problem is as follows: I recently purchased a new monitor with built in speakers, ASUS VH238H, and cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work. It works perfectly fine on another win7 pc using HDMI, but unfortunately the pc I want it to work with has a Geforce 9600gso which does not have a built in sound chip, this took me a while to figure out, so I have a aux cable running from the back of the mb to the monitor. I have checked that connection by using a portable speaker with aux connection where everything works fine. I also have done the normal troubleshooting processes like uninstalling drivers, restarting and letting windows install the native drivers, as well as uninstalling and installing the drivers from MSI, realtek hd audio, both with the same results, windows saying the speakers are fine but no audio. When playing music the green line in the system tray as well as the bars in sound menu move up and down but no audio. There is only one device in the sound menu which is enable and set to default with Realtek drivers and speakers and headphones with default hd drivers, with headphones being active when front panel in used and speakers when back panel is used. Audio is also enable in the bios. Almost forgot, sound did not work before or after installing Geforce drivers but after installing them there was a secondary sound "driver" in the device manager that I uninstalled to prevent any conflicts which has not reinstalled itself since, didn't think that would matter but just throwing it in.

I can't upload attachments but here is the link to pictures of the device manager and sound menu with both drivers installed.

Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

system specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Monitor: ASUS VH238H
MB: MSI A58M-E35
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 760K
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600gso(don't judge, sale on tiger for $20 a few years ago)
RAM: Kingston Hyperx Fury 8GB

EDIT:
Ok so we have a solution!
first off thank you balloonshark for all the help you definately pushed me into the right direction, also when you hear the solution your going to wonder how I could say I have any troubleshooting skills at all, seriously this was a duh moment on my part. So all to say thank you now the solution:

DVI plus 3.5mm...yeah that's it...told you it would be a duh moment.

So apparently this model of monitor assumes if there is HDMI hooked up that there should be no other reason to use the 3.5mm jack, so it disables it. Windows sees the connection as a valid one so assumes everything is good but the monitor is like " HDMI hooked up...that's all I need."

So hopefully if someone out there is in the same situation this will help out.

So you're getting sound from the test speaker connected to your motherboard via the 3.5mm cable? If so it sounds as if your monitor volume is too low or you need to set the audio input in the monitor settings if it has any.

If you have a headset plugged into your computer you might want to double check that it doesn't mute the rear speakers. The setting is in the "device advanced settings" (top right) of the realtech HD audio manager in the control panel.

Is your 3.5mm cable plugged into the green rear MB output?

Hey thanks for the reply,
Yes, I'm trying to eliminate all possibilities, so the same cable in the same connection works fine with the test speakers using the 3.5mm jack. The only input settings on the monitor is for VGA, DVI, and HDMI, but since I have video the input is correct and the volume is on 100 and I've tested different levels just to be sure. I have also taken the monitor and hooked it up to another win7 pc and everything works great so I know the speakers work, thinking about it now the only thing I haven't tested is the 3.5mm jack on the monitor itself, I used HDMI on the other pc to test the speakers, so its a possibility the jack could be bad. Unfortunately the setup is not with me right now so I will hook it back up using dvi and aux to test the aux jack on the monitor and let yall know. Thanks again for the input.

Also I do not have any other audio devices hooked up together with the monitor, I only unhooked the aux cable from the monitor and plugged it into the test speakers. I am using the rear green 3.5mm jack on the MB.

It does sound like a jack or input issue. I wonder if a firmware update would have anything to do with the sound?

With the power on I wonder if an mp3 player would output through the monitor's speakers as a test?
