Audio Issues with DFI LANParty UT Ultra-D Motherboard

Hey guys, figured I'd come here first before trying to contact the nightmare that is customer support.

Here's the deal, I just got my DFI LANParty UT Ultra-D a few days ago and I've been busy setting up my computer and whatnot. Everything is dandy except that my 2.0 Altec Lansing speakers aren't putting out any sound whatsoever!

I've already connected them to my iPod and they play music just fine. However, when I try to play a song and connect the speakers to any one of the audio ports on the Karajin sound module on the motherboard, I get nothing. Actually, I get a bit of static noise, which reconfirms the fact that the speakers do indeed work. However, I cannot hear any sound.

I've tried turning up the volume on the speakers and on the Windows Volume Control -- all to no avail. Again, the speakers do work... just not with the computer.

I know it isn't a codec issue, because I've tried mp3s, games, and movies which can play without additional codecs. I've also checked and double-checked to make sure the AC97 sound was enabled (Auto) in the BIOS. I've disabled it, restarted, and reenabled it, too. When I disable it, Windows does recognize that there is no sound module present. When I enable it, Windows believes that it is working just fine.

I've checked the connection to the motherboard to make sure the Karajin module was seated firmly in its socket and, again, I've tried all 6 ports (though my speakers should just plug into the Line Out and work).

I've tried virus scanning, spyware and adware scanning, etc. and I've tried flashing the BIOS, too.

I'm all out of ideas, so does anyone have any suggestions?

if no on suggests in a couple of hours just rma it, i would have done most of those troubleshootings, too. dunno any others.

Would I need to RMA the whole motherboard or can I just send in the sound module?

have you checked dfi.street? i've never had trouble with mine but there are definitely some threads on the module there.

i wuld imagine they'd want the whole board back if its rma material.

Okay, thanks guys. I think I'm probably going to need an RMA. I was pretty careful with the static issue, so I wonder what went wrong...

Uninstall your current nForce drivers thru add/remove programs, reboot, then install the 6.66's

You can then open the NVIDIA Mixer to adjust the audio properties. First click the bottom left icon.

1) Make sure Master and Wave are not muted

The 2nd icon on the bottom left will allow you to set the speaker Wizard to 2 speakers

I'll try that, John, but I'm going on a trip for a couple of days in a few hours, so I'll do it when I get back. I'm a little concerned about all the problems people report having when they do that, but I'll try to back up my hard drive before I do anything just in case.

Awesome, the situation has been rectified.

Apparently, my Karajan Sound Module did not come with any jumper caps on it, so when Sharp from DFI-Street posted a picture with the Module and it had those blue jumper caps, I thought to myself, "I don't have those on mine!" Sure enough, when I checked, the little pins were uncovered, bare, and open to the harsh conditions of my case.

Now they are happy and snug in their jumper caps (thank god for DFI including spare jumper caps!) and I am happy and able to hear audio. w00t!

Thanks for your help, guys, and if you have a DFI motherboard and ever run into problems, hit up DFI-Street!

BTW, here is my thread in case you have this problem: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17242
