Audio getting louder and quieter

I have a soundblaster audigy gamerx, and listening to mp3s and playing games sometimes the sound will get quiet all of a sudden so I turn up the speakers, and then a few minutes later it goes back to the normal volume so everything is really frickin' loud. It doesn't seem like there is a pattern in when it does it, sometimes it's fine for a long time then does it (works fine for 8 hours). Also usually when it does this I get feedback from like components in the pc, I think it's the video card because it will make noise throught the speakers whenever I scroll on a website or there is a lot of stuff changing on the screen.. Any ideas how I can fix this?
 
move the sound card/video card to a different PC (or a friends PC) and make sure that whoever is using the other PC knows what to listen for.

hopefully just the soundcard is defective.
