Hi!

I finally built my first computer (yay!) and I seem to have everything up and running except audio and ethernet (for broadband). The rear panel audio and ethernet ports don't seem to be working for me.

My case is an Antec p180 and there's a connector for legacy 97 and hd audio which I tried to connect to the front panel audio connector on the motherboard but nothing happens. When I go to sound and audio devices in control panel, it says "no audio device". However, in the hardware tab, it lists audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, media control and legacy video capture devices.

When I plug in the ethernet to the rear panel, the led lights up, but that's it. In network connections, it only shows a 1394 connection, but no LAN.

Do I have to purchase a separate audio/ethernet card?

edit: oh yeah, and also in device manager, there's 5 unknown devices: other pci bridge device, 2x pci device, sm bus controller, and one called unknown device.

edit2: problem fixed! didn't notice the cdrom that came with the motherboard. hurhur.

marshmallowy,

Welcome to the forum..

I was just about to ask you about your CD drivers when I read your last sentence -- glad you figured it out. You might remember any time you look in Device Manager and see those yellow exclamation points, you need to add a driver. It can be frustrating when Windows doesn't know which device isn't loaded...
