Audio delay playing DVDs on PS3?

Ok,

So I just hooked up my PS3 and am getting some MAJOR audio delay problems. The way I have it wired up is from the PS3 to the TV using a component video setup (so just the red and white audio cables). I then have a 25 foot optical cable run going from my tv's audio out to the optical port on my logitech z-5500 speakers. When I first start the DVD the audio is all synced up and everything, but as it plays it gets worse and worse, to the point where it is more than a second delayed. If I restart the DVD it syncs back up, however if I just quit to the menu of the DVD and do a scene selection the audio is still off. Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

What happens if you connect the optical cable straight to the PS3? The current PS3 firmware is 1.81, definitely check that.

Yeah, might try updating firmware.

If at all possible just connect to the PS3 directly with the optical cable. You're really missing out on the audio side of things with they way you're doing it. Personally for me, I would even go through the trouble of disconnecting it from the TV to the PS3 and back again after I'm done using the PS3. Really, I would say do direct optical from the PS3 to your speakers and then do left/right RCA out from the TV (in my opinion the audio from the PS3 outranks even the DD5.1 feed from an HD signal). I think you'll need to get a cable or adapter to get the RCA into a single mini-pin but I think this will give you the best overall audio. That's just me though.

I don't really know what might be causing the audio sync issues. Possibly firmware, maybe the TV is doing something to the signal before outputting it optically. At the least its worth a try to do a direct optical from the PS3 to the speakers and see if that clears things up (and see what you've been missing audio wise).
