Audio cd's break up when played on pc

Weird problem that has been driving me nutty for over a year!
When I play a pre-recorded cd (a commercially made one) on my computer when the cd first starts to play the audio breaks up. I also burned many audio cd’s to play the .wav format and when they are played on the computer the first track audio breaks up. Sometimes it takes 2 to 3 tracks to play before it settles down.
Now,,, I can play a song or songs stored on the hard drive and it plays perfectly. I can burn a cd in the mp3 format and if I remember the mp3 cd will play with any problems. (Been months since I did it)
So far, the cd/dvd burner has been replaced. I replaced the sata cable too. The pc has on board audio (realtek) and the drivers are updated. I disabled the on board audiop and installed a pci audio card and the problem is still there. I flopped the sata motherboard connections by putting the cd burner on one that was used for a hard drive and moved the hard drive to the one previously used by the cd burner and the problem is still there. I tried to download a so called updated codec pack for windows and that didn’t help.
I think is is a driver/software/ codec problem but I can’t prove it.
The pc is a Dell unit, quad core, 8 gig ram, with ATI video card. Running WIN 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I use itunes to burn the cd's and have used other software. Can't remember which software (again it has been months since i did this)
Any thoughts or suggestion that can help me get this fixed??? Or as a desperate person does,,, HEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPP!! LOL
Thanks

You should have at least three or four different applications available for playing a CD (eg, musicmatch, creative player, windows oem, etc.; seems many applications include CD player software application). SO does this problem happen using different software players? Are you playing thru the BUS or instead the wired audio connection between the DvD/CD RW drive and the audio card/MB? Have you tried changing the hardware acceleration used for audio by Windows (see control panel - audio). Did you inspect the BIOS for any controls related to audio (eg, MB on board audio). In the BIOS, have you checked how the DvD/CD is to be picked up (eg, as an optical device or as AUTO)? Is the system set to boot from the DvD/CD RW (may want to ensure it is not the default)?

Have you verified the CD player drive by checking the DvD/CD drive's audio out with headphones and/or by plugging in the DvD/CD RW's audio out into the computer audio line in (hardwire) and verifying that the DvD/CD drive is correctly decoding the CD audio? Did you try or use the DvD/CR RW's MPC-3 CD audio connector as a work-around?

Thanks for the reply. I got caught up in the holiday rush with grandkids here every day and shopping and other forms of Holiday insanity. I am going to put this on hold till after the holidays and will try some of the things you suggested. I did try to use the headphone jack on the front of the computer but there was no audio there. I think I might have to recinfigure something in the software to enable that jack. I don't see any audio jack on the cd/dvd drive to use but a lof of the front of the jack is covered by the front of the frame on the case.
Once I get more time I will dig into this more.
Thanks!!!
