Audio CDs are mute on my SB Live Value

All the sounds work fine, I play games, mp3s, DVD movies without a problem. But when I try to play an Audio CD, it runs (the track times run...) but I can't hear any sound. I tried playing them with the windows cd player, musicmatch jukebox, and it does the same thing. It's not because the dvd-rom can't read it, because it converted a song to mp3, and it plays fine. I also checked if audio cd wasn't on mute in both windows and liveware. Anyone have a suggestion...

BTW I have a Pioneer DVD-115 16X (UDMA 2, master on second ide channel), SB Live Value with Fps2000 speakers (hooked to the digital output)

A lot of the live value's don't have a digital spdif in but rather have a pc speaker in which is the same 2 pin layout and could easily be mistaken for the spdif. Check your board and see if this is the case.

[edit] I also shouldn't have assumed that you have your cd audio cable hooked up from the drive to the sound card. [edit]

i dident hear you mention anything about the cable that goes from your dvd player to your sound card, if you dont have one than thats your problem. or if you have one you might have it plugged into the wrong port on one of the ends (the 2 pin one is digital, the 4 pin one is analoge"

you can find these cables at your computer store, i found some at future shop. if thats not the problem, then im not to shure, maby some jumper on the sound card that disables cd sound?

don't listen to them :)

the solution is to go to control panel/multimedia, click the button that opens the audio control panel (which can also be brought up by double clicking the speaker in the systray if you've got it enabled), then under Play Control (far left), click the "Advanced" button (you might need to enable the advanced settings in the file menu), and choose "Digital Output Only".

it should work now :) I had the same damn problem and was puzzled to hell about it ;)

btw, don't forget to turn it off if you need to record to a minidisc for example

my DVD isn't plugged to the sound card, I guess that explains it. (I feel dumb, I thought the sound could be played through the IDE cable)

I'll buy a cable, but is there a way to plug it in my Live Value, since it's the newer model which doesn't have spdif in?

edit--thanks Prodigy, I had tried that, but it didn't work either--edit

you mean to say your live value did not come with cables? AND your DVD-ROM drive did not come with cables...

oh well... *insert confused icon*
