well I would take a pic, but I'm getting a damn error with my digital camera so I can't do that :(

But here is a pic of the Stand So you can have an idea of what I'm talking about.

anyways, I built my TV stand yesterday and put my 50" DLP onto it and it looks great. Only problem is that my center channel speaker won't fit on the shelves of the stand with the receiver on it also. I didn't realize this before I purchased the stand. The stand has 2 shelves on it, but the speaker I have won't fit on the top shelf. Neither will my receiver because its too tall as well. And I can't fit them both on the bottom unless I have the center speaker to the side a little, and also it's too low and even if I angle it up, there is a table in the way of the sound passing to the sitting area.

So my question is this. Should I just build a shelf and put it on the wall above the TV? The TV is about 2 and a half feet away from the wall, and if I put a shelf on the wall, the speaker will be about 1.5 feet behind the TV screen, and probably about 2 feet above the tv screen. I can't put it right above the TV screen on the wall because the angle from where I sit, the tv will block the path to the speaker, so I have to raise it up higher. I can also angle the speaker to aim directly at the couch I sit on to watch TV.

So my question basically is, would doing this shelf idea be the best, or will having the speaker behind the TV about 2 feet and above the TV about 2 feet make the center channel seem kind of drowned out or anything? this might be a stupid question, but I figured I would ask before I go nailing a shelf onto the wall to find out it just doesn't sound right with the speaker in that position. My other alternative is to get one of those center channel mounts that mount on the TV itself, which are pretty expensive though. So what do you suggest?

My advice would be to return the stand, then buy one that will accommodate your center channel...

thats not happening, this stand matches perfectly. like i said i can get the mount that goes on top of the TV if all else fails, i am just trying to see if my other idea about the stand on the wall is a good idea or not from people who have experience.

Matches perfectly, yet doesn't fit what you need? Interesting concept... :p

I've never actually positioned a center channel in the manner you're describing, but I'm pretty sure that it will sound better mounted on top of the TV rather than above/behind it. Of course, if aesthetics are more important to you than sound quality, then you can pretty much put your center channel wherever you want.

I don't know what kind of receiver you have, but I can tell my receiver how far each speaker is from the listening position. If the center channel is further away, you might be able to setup your receiver to compensate for that.

yea my receiver lets me change the actual volume of each speaker, in relation to eachother. so maybe i can just turn it up a little bit louder to compensate for it. i am still debating what to do. i already have the shelf parts so i might just go ahead and try it out.
