Audigy2 ZS Platinum or X-Fi XtremeMusic?

Which of the two is the better choice for all-around usage? I watch a few movies and periodically listen to MP3s on this machine, as well as play a few games. I don't use surround at the moment, but the card may eventually be used in a HTPC. The Audigy2 Plat can be had for $73 and the X-Fi for $82, so price difference isn't much. I'm not interested in spending more than this for a card, so these 2 SEEM to be the best options in this range. What would you suggest for my use? Thanks.

The X-Fi has better sound quality than the Audigy, and also has the (supposedly) useful Crystalizer. I would get the Audigy only if I wanted the extra port box that's included.

Don't know if the Audigy has it, but screw the Crystalizer, the action is in the CMSS-3D especially for 2.1 setups. The crystalizer actually distorts the sound too much. The latter has made the biggest difference for me. However, real qustion is if you need the extra features/parts on the platinum.

I would take a look at the Auzentech X-Plosion or the X-Purity(TBR mid august) They would serve your HTPC needs better than creative.

The audigy 2 zs platinum is $70 after $100 MIR... still a good deal. I'd get the xfi though, better sound quality according to specs.

I would also agree...Audigy 2ZS Platinum works extremely well. The X-Fi is too pricey and seems to digitalize sound more. If your into gaming, go with X-Fi (and creative 7.1's). If you just want plain good sound quality i suggest you check out the Audigy. Try ebay. I saw one for around 46 shipped.

Happy findings

if you are after better sound quality - get X-Fi, if you want a remote control in a bundle get Audigy 2ZS Platinum.
