audigy2 firewire vs. onboard

Hi once more,

I have a plain Audigy2 from many months ago (not a ZS, Platinum, or whatever else is out there). I plan to upgrade to a Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR motherboard, which lacks firewire. I'm also planning to pick up a Minolta film scanner, which seems to get a performance boost when using Firewire instead of USB. I'm curious whether anyone can comment on the potential performance difference between the Audigy's firewire and what I'd get from an onboard TI or VIA controller (such as the MSI Neo's). Film scanning shouldn't really strain Firewire bandwidth as much as other devices, even at 5400ppi resolution, right? An entire image would be around 250MB at most, and it would come in only as fast as the scanner's sensor could read it. Just wondering whether there are other potential disadvantages to going with the Audigy. CPU use, perhaps, if it drastically slowed down image processing during the scan?

Thanks in advance. :)

I can't attest to how they will perform doing what you need to do, but I can tell you that both solutions work flawlessly with my iPod. I have a MSI K8N Neo Plat and an Audigy 2 ZS and have used both. I like the convenience of onboard firewire, and having both gives me a backup in case one of them should crap the bed. :)
