Has anyone tryed this on a SB Audigy? I cant be arsed reading the whole post. It`d take too long on a 56k.
Sounds Interesting. Pun Intended. lol

The thing that interests me is the Headphone Surround thing, and support for Pro Logic Decoding. DeusEx1 does Pro Logic surround, but i dont have an external decoder, so this hack could come in handy.

hmm im just starting to read that now.

I guess one topic is the modifying A2 drivers and using them on A1?

When the Audigy 2 first came out and this was a topic, I did it, and Ive been using the same set of Audigy 2 drivers ever since on my Audigy MP3+.

I would do it again with more recent drivers, but i forgot how! Maybe this will refresh my memory..

Side question: I have always wondered, what exactly is the diff. between the various denominations of Audigy 1: Gamer, MP3+, etc.. ?

Just the software bundle.
The gamer comes with games.
The MP3+ comes with MP3 software.
Dunno about the rest.

in terms of the actual hardware, they are exactly the same cards... just the software is different.

They are`nt the same hardware wise.
The Audigy2 has more connectors and support for 6.1 for a start.
The Audigy 2 has a better internal handing of audio streams than the Audigy1.
The Audigy1 recieves the 24/96 stream, processes it, and downsamples it. The Audigy 2 is 24/96 all the way.

The question asked was

what exactly is the diff. between the various denominations of Audigy 1: Gamer, MP3+, etc.. ?

The answer to that is that the hardware is the same, and the software is different. He didn't ask about the differences between the Audigy 1 and 2 boards.

heh!

...good times :)

is it worth getting an Audigy 2 over my A1 right now?

When I buy my Nintendo Gamecube in like a week, im gonna run it entirely through my pc so I can get surround sound (my pc is the best audio setup in the house) and ive got a pretty big 21" monitor...
Anyway, GCN uses Dolby Pro Logic II for its audio, and it seems that Audigy 1 will decode only Pro Logic I.
(first question: if i get the correct y-adapter, and run line-in to the sound card, itll decode to Pro Logic on the fly, right? Nothing else needed?)
Well it seems that the Audigy2 will decode Pro Logic II...

I also do some music production, and judging from the demos Ive already done, Im very happy with the quality of sound that I get currently, so I dunno how neccessary or improving it will be if i upgrade.

Is it worth it?

ProLogic2 is backwards compatible with ProLogic1.
What you need is a cable that`ll convert the Left/Right Audio Cables on the GC, into a single cable, and then plug that into your line-in input on the Audigy.

yea i know itll just use PL1 instead of PL2, but whats the difference? Is it worth getting a whole new card that can do PL2?

and i was planning on going to radio shack or something and looking for a left-and-right RCA to 1/8" stereo Y-adapter. thats all i need, right?

I "think" that ProLogic1 is 4 speaker surround, and ProLogic2 is 5.1 sound, with better handling of the channel splitting.
Dont quote me though. Check on a sound review website, like 3dsoundsurge.com, there might be a more detailed explenation of them there.
If you find out, and find that it`ll work through the audigy1, then post pack, please, cos i was considering doing the same.

What do you mean?
You said that you`d be trying to connect your GC to your Audigy, I said, if it works, then post back.
Am i missing something here.

Metroid. Excellent game. My main gripe with it, is to get the 100% ending in the game, you have to scan 100% of things, and somethings only appear once, and if you forget, your F*~£&d.

Zelda, got it 2 days ago, i`m hardly off it, its that good. By far the best game out at the moment on any format.

Mario. You can`t buy something nintendo and not get a mario game. Its against the law. Seriously though. Good game, lots to do and see, buy it. Short though, if you dont go for all 120 shines.

StarFox Adventures.
Good game as well, similar to Zelda in style, but far shorter. I completed it twice in less that a week.

My friend has metroid, and it just looks amazing, its so nice and clean, excellent anti-aliasing!
very sharp.
though ive heard complaints from others about having to scan everything...

zelda is a winner

mario definitely looks great too

I heard starfox adventures was good, i guess im gonna have to check that out.

you know, usually i HATE sports games, but my friend and I played some NFL game on his GCN (im not sure which game) and I must say, it was pretty nice. im not even much of a football fan, yet i enjoyed the gameplay. I was thinking of getting MLB Slugfest 2004... (baseball is my domain :))

The GC doesnt actually anti-alias, it comes free with the TV. TVs arn`t as sharp of PC monitors, so even at 640x480, theres practically no alaising.
As for the scanning in metroid. Its not needed to complete the game. But the more you scan, the more things you get, such as better endings, concept art galleries, ect;

ah yes, i remember reading about how anti-aliasing works along with the tv...

interesting...

since you were planning on running though a PC as well, what software were you gonna use to view the picture?
