Daniel K was the first one that modded the X-Fi Xtreme Audio drivers for Audigy SE. The last X-Fi X-treme modded for Audigy SE are 1.04.0078.

What I did? I modded the 1.04.0079 X-Fi Xtreme Audio drivers for Audigy Value, Audigy SE / Audigy 2 SE, Audigy LS, Live! 24-bit .

More information you can find here: http://forums.techpowerup.com/...ead.php?t=47961&page=4

What you gain? You will have the same sound on Audigy Se like on X-Fi Xtreme Audio.

Bullshit

Sound quality comes from the quality of the discrete components(mainly the OP AMPS and D->A converters), not the drivers. You may be able to access higher versions of EAX or a crystalizer, but that's the end of it. The THD, S/N ratio, Frequency response, etc. will all be the same.

Not really. A device will not work in Windows without drivers. This drivers can be beter or worst. Let's the example of video drivers. If you use diferent versions of drivers with same settings in 3dmark you will not get the same results. Higher EAX means better sound efect in the games that use them (even if they it's made software).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_Live!

Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit

The Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit was not actually a member of the Sound Blaster Live! family, because it lacked the EMU10k1/10k2 processor. It was a stripped down version of the Audigy Value, with an SNR of 100 dB, software based EAX, no advanced resolution DVD-Audio Playback, and no Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Digital EX 6.1 playback. A proof of this is that on Linux operating systems, when using the ALSA sound system, the module that is used for the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit is snd-ca0106, while the module that is used by the Sound Blaster Live! is snd-emu10k1.

Sound Blaster Audigy SE & Audigy Value

The Audigy SE and Audigy Value are stripped down versions of the Audigy, with software-based EAX 3.0 (upgraded to software-based EAX 4.0 with a driver update), no advanced resolution DVD-Audio Playback, and no Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Digital EX 6.1 playback. It lacks the EMU10k1/10k2 processor, instead using a CA-0106 Family chip. As opposed to the rest of the Audigy series, the SE is a low-profile PCI card

X-Fi Xtreme Audio

The entry-level model of the X-Fi series, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, does not actually have the EMU20K1 chip but is a re-branded Audigy SE, using the same family of chips (CA0106-WBTLF), and even the same drivers.[14] Thus, not only is all of the X-Fi?related processing performed in software, but it also lacks basic hardware acceleration just like the SB Live! 24-bit, the Audigy SE and other budget Soundblaster models. The X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not use the same drivers as the rest of the X-Fi family, some games do not recognize it as being "X-Fi capable hardware", and the device's hardware profile resembles that of older Live! and Audigy cards.

Furthermore, users have reported that it slows down some applications and games, and that rear sound in games (all) is muffled and of profoundly low quality.[15][16][17] Thus, even if the card is marketed as part of the X-Fi line, it does not belong to it technically, just like the Audigy SE doesn't technically belong to the Sound Blaster Audigy series. The card is not marketed as supporting the "X-Fi Gaming Mode" (but is still marketed as "X-Fi"), and there are no official implicit or explicit statements regarding its having hardware acceleration or not.

When some things are done software then the quality of the drivers matters. CMI 8738 and ADI 1988A chips are another good examples. With some drivers they sound ok with others they sound very very bad.

Whitout drivers a device will not work in Windows! Drivers links your applications with the hardware!

As I said, you can add features such as EAX 3.0 but you cannot improve SNR, THD or frequency response...which is essentially sound quality. Yes, drivers allow windows to communicate with the hardware. The only way they hamper sound quality though is if they are broken. They do not change the hardware which is doing the digital to analog conversion which results in the sound you hear.

I did misread your comment that you are making a Audigy SE sound like a X-Fi Xtreme audio. That may be true...IF the hardware is the same(by that I mean Op amps and D-A converters). The layout of the circuitry can also affect sound quality. Since I don't have the cards on hand to compare I cannot say whether or not the hardware besides the processor is the same on both.

However, simply changing drivers to X-fi drivers will not necessarily give an audio quality increase unless the previous drivers were broken. If the processor was delivering the digital signal(sound) to your D->A converter correctly...it will sound the same.

I just wanted to say the AudigyS SE sound will be better with the modded drivers. I didn't wanted to say that will sound like X-Fi Xtreme audio, I want to tell that it will sound closer to X-Fi Xtreme.

If something is cut in the drivers and you opened it by modding the drivers then the sound can be better.

There are some hardware diferences between the 2 sound cards.

Here are some pics:

It is posible that the CPU usage with my modded drivers to be higher then with the official 1.04.0077. :)

Sorry but my english is not so good.

L.E.:

As result of the accusations posted here: http://danielkawakami.blogspot...ve-24-bit-to-x-fi.html I will stop posting modded drivers on this forum. I will still mod drivers but they will be posted only on one Romanian forum. On that page he claims he modded the 1.04.0080 drivers. I was not able to find 1.04.0080 drivers on Creative website and I didn?t tested the modded 1.04.0080 (I can?t see what in that archive so I don?t know if it?s safe to use or not). I can only say this: ?Use the modded drivers 1.04.0080 with caution.? If he is the real Daniel k and if those are the real 1.04.0080 drivers that he is having my felicitation. If he just edited the versions of the drivers to make them look like a new version then it?s sad he used this ways. I don?t know if the owner of this page http://danielkawakami.blogspot...ve-24-bit-to-x-fi.html is the real Daniel K or not.
I don?t understand why he is upset because I was not able to find any 1.04.0079 modded drivers. Why to keep the drivers only for myself when there is no 1.04.0079 modded drivers on internet?
This is all I have to say. As you can see I posted the link to that blog and I don?t have anything with the author of the 1.04.0080 modded drivers.
