Audigy (OEM) or Game Theater XP?

Getting one or the other. I am planning on moving to Xp eventually so need it to work well with both ME and XP.

Thanks for advice.

I am using Logitech Z-560s.

My SB Audigy works fine in WinXP,I don`t think you can really go wrong with either card.

Go with the GameTheater Xp. Its not just a rehased 3yr old card with updated drivers and a firewire port.

Waht motherboard do you have? If you have a Via then you might want to think twice about getting the Audigy. You might have to do some extra work in getting it to work. I have a Via motherboard and Augigy and got it to work with some extra work. It works fine for me but some people complain that theirs has problems with it.

If you are up to it I would get the Augigy because it is much cheaper unless you really plan on using the breakout box of the Game Theater XP.

Well using AMD 760 Chipset at moment, Epox 8k7a.

I found the Game Theater Xp for around $30 more and I think the external console would be very nice, gets old switching headphones in and out and turning volume up and down for it, plus the usb front ports would be nice for gaming devicies.

Just worry about compatibility and driver support. Xp seems inevitable and every time I have went towards nt I have had some sort of sound issue. Main reason I never kept win2k on.

I gotta give props to the Audigy. Very clear rich sound, plus you could always use an extra firewire port. What do you plan to use it for? Just sound output? If you want to use it for multi-pupose sound/music activity, go with the Platinum versions. ( The Platinum EX version comes in handy if the equipment you want to plug into the LiveDrive can't reach to the front of the PC. 😛 )

GTXP and I love it...only complaint is that it BSOD's on me under Empire Earth. Seems to be a common problem. Though my SBlive BSOD all the time on my Epox 8kha+ and 1800+, so I guess that's an improvement

What a dumb statement.... The Audigy has a totally new chip (it's not the Emu 10k1 used on the Live! and PCI512 cards) that supports 96 kHz playback sampling and has far more processing more than the old 10k1 (this means less CPU utilization when utilizing 3D sound APIs for the gaming folks). It's also the cheapest card that is ASIO-compliant. The Game Theater XP is a great product, but the Audigy is simply a superior piece of technology.

If you really need the breakout box, the GTXP is most likely the best buy. But otherwise I'd say go with an Audigy. That's just my opinion.

Actually, there have been rumors circulation recently about the audigy being just a rehashed live with added firewire and a philips chip that adds the new features. There was a thread on it just a few days ago here in the OT. I am not sure if I believe it and there is no question that the audigy is an awesome sound card (I am buying one within a few weeks) but don't be so harsh before you know. The rumor started because some chinese guy claimed to have hacked his live card and made it an audigy minus the firewire and philips DAC chip

BTW, here is the thread

hmm, guess the link in the thread no longer works. Like I said, I am not sure if I believe it, but it seems like a possibility. Either way, I am buying one soon 🙂
