Audigy Drivers

I recently got an audigy; i don't know exactly how creative's driver/software system works; i go to the site d/load latest drivers install those, they work fine but when i d/load the "creative surround mixer" and try to install it i get a message saying "no previous version of surround mixer found" what should i do?

IMHO Creative software/drivers suck. Typically you need to use the supplied CDROM to install the drivers & software, then you run the Creative update.

You have to install the ones on the CD-ROM first and "update" them from the new ones you've downloaded. It's really dumb. It should be like ATI's setup, full latest version downloadable drivers.

This was very problematic with the Live! generation when Windows XP arrived. The old Live! CD installers and XP just don't get along very well. It's a stupid requirement.

You can get the drivers off the Creative site and install them. But for the Creative "software", you need the original install files, either from the CD or wherever you can find them. The updates for the "software" you get off the Creative site won't install all alone. Really, really dumb. But that's the Creative way!

Follow Pete's directions to hack and install the Audigy2 software and drivers. They work much better on the Audigy1.

Hint: To make CSSS work properly without any distortion or crackling, set your master volume at 80%. The DAC on the A1 distorts sound more easily than the one on the A2. 75% (on mine at least) counteracts the distortion.

In case you're wondering, I'm running an Audigy Platinum with the EAX4 drivers and the Audigy2 software suite. All mixer settings are at 100% except master volume which is at 75%. I'm using Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 speakers.

You don't need the CD or the mixer software. Just download the latest core drivers and they'll work just fine by themselves.

Actually I did need to install one of Creative's software turds in order for the rest of the driver update to work properly. I think it was the mixer but I could be mistaken, it was about a month ago.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I have an Audigy 2, but no cd. I can finally use my Audigy 2 in my HTPC once again.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and when I format, for one reason or another, I just download the latest and they work beautifully...
