Audigy driver "disappears"

Just switched to an MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR (NForce2) m/b, and the sound card driver is having problems: I have the m/b sound disabled and I'm using an Audigy card.

If I remove the Creative Labs Audigy drivers [game port, joy stick emulation, sound] and reboot, the sound drivers load and everything works just fine. 🙂 Until I reboot, whereupon I get messages that the driver isn't properly loaded. 🙁 Looking at ControlPanel -> System -> DeviceManager -> Sound..., no problems are indicated on any Audigy device, yet the ToolBar's "volume control" [speaker icon] is overlaid with the "prohibited" icon (slashed circle).

I've never seen this combination of a failed driver, no indications in the ControlPanel, and a flagged icon. Were this an IRQ or resource problem, I wouldn't expect the problem to be temporarily "fixed" [until next reboot] by reloading those drivers. 😕

'Appreciate any answer!!

I also make sure gameport is disabled in BIOS(for the motherboard one) and midi port address is disabled as well in BIOS,make sure all onboard sound settings are disabled you might have miss one.

As to the Audigy well you can try a different PCi slot and after you`ve installed the Audigy from the setup CD try downloading the latest drivers from here 9note it`s for XP and 2K only).

One more thing if you`ve installed any driver/software for the onboard sound best to remove it since might be causing a conflict.

The m/b lacks a game port and midi. I've had the entire m/b sound system disabled from the get-go.

I also loaded the most current Audigy drivers at the start -- and re-downloaded them and installed them a few times!

I have tried a different PCI slot (disabling other unused m/b features [parallel/serial ports] at the same time. IRQ of Audigy has switched from 11 to 5. And nothing's improved.

'Guess this is that "camel's straw"... I've just folded up and ordered XP pro to replace my 98se. How I HATE giving Bill more ca$h !!!
