Thinking about getting one, but would like to hear everyones opinion, and whether or not there is a difference between retail and oem models. Thanks.

audigy is very good and only dfifference bewteen oem and retail is box and software package (that ya can download anyways off their website)

Yeah, I did. Immediately noticed the difference in sound quality too, but then again I have pretty decent speakers. I have the Audigy X-Gamer, but I recently bought an OEM version as well. The design is basically the same, but there are some differences. Right away, the OEM has color-coded plastic jacks while the retail version has gold plated ones. Obviously, the OEM is devoid of software other than the driver CD.

You get the game GIANTS with retail.

I think it is an excellant card and I it seems to be okay on my VIA board Epox 8K7A.

It's a great soundcard, and I love the firewire ports on it as well. I have it hooked up to the Inspire 5700 5.1 speakers, sounds very nice. And.... XP likes this card lol.

I have the Audigy Platinum and find a major positive difference in sound from my Live 5.1 Platinum. Software install, however, was another matter. Me took 2 tries and a registry hack to get it right, XP took 3 tries and I'm not sure it's really right there yet.

I got the Audigy X-Gamer retail box -- came with Giants AND Deus Ex (game of the year edition).. I had a SB Live 5.1 X-Gamer before.. Even though the previous card didn't suck, I still noticed a nice difference with my Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500's 5.1 digital speakers.. It also has firewire which is a bonus, includes advanced EAX which is really decent and works like a charm in XP..

Hey there...i'm looking at pairing up the audigy OEM model up with the Inspire 5300s. Is there a major sound difference between the gold plated connections of the retail version and the plastic connectors of the OEM version? I'd love to get your experience with this. Thx in advance.

Steph

I`ve the European version "SB Audigy Player" which comes with Giants game and the sound quality is better then the SB live which I`ve in my other PC,sound wise it`s clearer with no hiss .I had no problems with driver install on XP OS with Epox 8KHA+(KT266a) board.

🙂
