Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro + Klipsch 5.1 + Winamp 5.1

I don't really like the Creative software package. The only thing I *DO* like about it is the audio controls that let me choose what to use as a microphone input. The CMSS sounds like crap, but if I don't turn it on, I only get my music out of the front two channels.

Now, once I installed it without the apps- just the basic drivers. It played out of all of my speakers and didn't sound distorted. Of course, I couldn't take advantage of the few audio controls that I DID like.

So this re-install, I put on the default set of apps. I also downloaded the new Winamp. I'm not sure if I ran winamp before installing the audigy drivers or before, but apparently I did it afterwards, because I heard the new surround sound llama whipping, and it was good. I also installed the k-lite codec pack.

Now when I try to run the llama whipping demo, I only hear the whipping in the rear two channels, and at the end of the file, winamp crashes.

So I uninstalled the codec pack, winamp, and all creative software. Now I'm starting to think about exactly what I should do- I like audio quality, I like my music coming from all of the speakers, and I like being able to set my microphone to output 'what I'm hearing' which is great for letting friends hear a snippet of a song.

Thanks guys, this is my favorite forum for anything computer related, ever. You're all intelligent and ravishingly attractive, and your children are all above average. 😉
