Audigy 2ZS 5.1 Analog out to Sony Reciever problem

I found out you can get 5.1 sound from the audigy 2ZS to a 5.1 receiver using a stereo mini-rca to normal Y RCA (2 pole). You use three of these in the Audigy and then the six out go into the multichannel in on the receiver. Everything is connected and the correct output from the speakers is there (center, left, right, etc.) but the volume is super low and the sound is tin can sounding.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a audigy setting or do you think my Sony DA4ES is not configured right?

Cable I used:
Belkin F8V235-12

If you connect another source (like a DVD player or something) to the 5.1 input on the receiver, does that work normally?

I don't have another device that output the six independent inputs for the 5've never used it..1 via multichannel in. All the other standard inputs works fine (optical, coax, etc.). This is that strange input where every speaker has a RCA input, I'v never used it.

Can you just hook up a player to the FR and FL portion of the 6channel direct input? You don't need to have them all connected to check it.

Ya, I guess I could plug the composite red/white from the CD player in and vice verse into the CD player input. I assume they all use the same levels?
