Audigy 2 zs

I basically got it for like $50 so I am happy with it regardless, but I keep on reading about this issue and the folks at AVS keep on tearing it a new one🙁

I usually listen to music that was pulled from CDs into wma lossles and then converted into apple lossless. All of it is basically 44.1khz lossless.

I haven't set aside the time to do a back to back comparison with my soundstorm for music, but my impressions when I plugged it in were great. Basically, I plugged it in, tried to remember what the music I had heard the day before sounded like and called it a day. Some comparison😱

I would just like to know if I am missing something. I have an acute sense of hearing from my days as a violinist😱 so if it is there I'll notcie it, but like I said, I have't done an A or B tests yet.

my setup:

Onkyo tx-sr600 (192/24 for stereo, 96/24 for 5.1)
Mirage Frx-5 fronts
Connection:
5.1 analog out into 5.1 analog input

My old setup used the onboard Soundstorm via spdif.

A modest system by all means, but a decent one in my opinion.

My experience is that as long as you use the analog connections for the music it sounds better than soundstorm. I used both and the digital connection of soundstorm just didn't sound as good to me. Just my opinion but they were both great. I wish I still had that one cable running to my receiver instead of the 7 I have now 🙁

The Soundstorm would have had the same resampling issue. For typical audio setups, it shouldn't really be noticeable. The A4 actually has an option for bit-accurate SPDIF output. Curiously enough, so does the A2 7.1 Value. I can play DTS wav files correctly over a digital connection to a receiver, with the receiver recognizing the DTS data.

Hmmn, doesn't the A2ZS have bit accurate S/PDIF? Aren't all S/PDIF streams bit-accurate? How else would it do DD/DTS passthrough?

Normal DD/DTS streams are 48KHz. DTS wavs and audio CDs are 44.1KHz.

long story...the a2values..or the new ones anyway, are based on the audigy4 chip

the A2zs cannot do bit perfect 44.1🙁
