Hi everyone,

I have and Audigy 2 ZS SC and am presently using an external stereo amp to power 2 X Pioneer 200W oval speakers(picked it from my car when I sold it). I like its high frequencies and the upper end of the lower frequencies. However, the speakers suck at low frequencies.

For some reason, I do not like the speakers designed for PCs, esp the creative inspire series and similar altec lansings. Their satellites suck big time. I do not want to buy any of these company's high end products as well.

It is high time I did something about the low freq sounds and was thinking that I should stick to car audio and buy a Sony xplod XM-504Z 4/3 channel amp ( http://www.sonyindia.co.in/static/Caraudio/amplifier/xm_504z.html ) and the
XS-LD105P5 subwoofer ( http://www.sonyindia.co.in/static/Caraudio/subwoofer/xs_ld105p5.html ). This way I can expect to retain my existing ovals as the main speakers. I dont care much about multi channels. I mite think of adding 2 more speakers since the amps support 4 channel, later on.

I know this setup could be quite a pain but if this can work out well I do not mind taking the pain for setting this up. Now, I need help with 2 things:

1) What do you think of such a setup, does it make sense?
2) I have lotsa spare comp power supplies lying around. Would it be safe to put them in parallel to supply the required current to this amp?

If you honestly care about sound quality why are you looking at sony? My logitech set will blow away any "xplod" subs. If you are dead set on it though find the spec sheets for w/e amp you plan on using and find the amperage at 12v's that it uses. Mine draws 115 at max load, so I had to give up on the PSU idea and use a car battery which I recharge. PSU's are very very dangerous in parallel, bad idea.

Have you ever heard them side by side? Cabin gain in a car is nothing, you bring any sort of car sub inside and it destroys all else. Most home drivers are smaller (8" and 10"), you don't see many 18"s for this reason.

I wouldn't bother with the car audio. Sell the stuff and dig around for a decent home theatre setup rather than doing that. If your set on it though, do what crazysob said and get a battery and car charger, lot better than the PSUs.

Yeah, I have 2 infinity 12dvq's blairing next to me as we speak, and the infinity's kick ass, but the logitech's are much better than my buddies xplod's... Nothing against car speakers, just xplod's for beingin POS's in general... Blew an amp at half it's rated strength.

you've tried the sonys inside though? the sound quality is going to be crap regardless, but they get a ton louder than in the car. i ran one in my house for a little while off 100w, it tore up my 150W 8" home sub. i know xplod is all crud anyways, i was forced to install it for a good year. install, tear back out, warranty, reinstall. lather rinse and repeat :D
