I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to plug headphones in the front line out jack, and 2.1 speakers in the rear line out jack, and switch between them in software somehow. I looked through the creative software and manuals and couldn't figure out how to do this. In fact, even if i set it for 4.1 sound I can't get sound from the speakers plugged in the rear jack.

Right now I'm using a Y connecter to get sound to the speakers and headphones, but this means the headphones are running all the time, even when i'm just listening to the speakers.

I do it by unplugging the headphones and putting them away when I want speaker output

That is how it is designed. Plug in headphones, and the speakers are silenced. Unplug headphones, and your speakers come back.

I thought the seperate headphone out with the software muting of the speakers was a Platinum "exclusive" feature.

AFAIK it requires a Live Drive or Audigy Drive to work.

hm i have dj software that can make use of a 5.1 card so i have the normal speakers plugged in the normal line out which gives me 2.1......then it uses another2 channles (most probs left rear and right rear) to give me left and right sound for the coresponding "virtual" turntables
