When I play games the equalizer goes flat and remains that way even after exiting the game. Is there a solution for this? I should point out that the equalizer doesn't really go flat, just the sound. The EQ essentially just stops working. When I go back to the EQ settings, it's still checked and it will then start working but doing this every time I exit a game can get annoying.

why do u need to control the equalizer for games? the equalizer in the creative taskbar icon is used to control sound files used in the creative player only.. i think?

No the EQ works on everything coming through my speakers but once I start a game it goes flat. I could handle the flat sound during games. That's fine. But when I come out of the game, the sound remains flat as if the EQ isn't on.

Update your drivers...

If that doesn't help, get some more accurate speakers--don't know what to tell ya. Probably cheaper than getting an active EQ.

I had the latest drivers installed and I'm using Klipsch speakers. I just don't care for the flat sound.

Well you can't say that conclusively until you actually have linear speakers in my opinion. You have to look at the point of reference. A flat EQ just means a loudspeakers normal characteristics are being played, not that it is "linear" across the frequency bandwidth. If a flat EQ = flat response, then every loudspeaker would sound exactly the same. To get a flat response with a given loudspeaker, you have to measure the response, then adjust the EQ to *get* a flat response. If you've never heard linear response before, then how can you say you don't like "flat" sound?

Ok well, I'm not about to buy new speakers. I'm not an audiphile and I think that spending $150 on speakers is quite enough. If creative puts an EQ in their drivers, it should work in my opinion. Anyway, I solved the problem by removing the Creative card and putting my old Hercules Fortissimo II card in. The EQ works flawlessly on this piece of crap with three year old drivers. Next time I buy a soundcard, I won't be considering Creative products.

Your Audigy 2 ZS is way better than that other card ? I?d swap them out if I were you.

First of all - Your Promedia Klipsch 2.1 are very nice speakers.

Second - you DO NOT want EQ on. All EQ does is distort the signal to emphasize different characteristics of the sound (usually making it sounding boomy.)
Instead of doing that (making the sounds impure / unrealistic by turning on EQ) ? you want to disable EQ and have your speakers play the sound how it actually is suppose to be played and heard.

How can you possibly tell me what I want? I prefer the sound of the EQ being on. I can't possibly be the only person that does or they wouldn't bother including the EQ in their software. It seems to me that almost every soundcard that is coming out these days includes an EQ in their drivers. Am I wrong to expect it to work properly? Hercules and their crap 3 year old drivers work properly. My onboard sound w/EQ works properly. Creative does not. I emailed Creative's tech support and I got the classic "make sure to update your drivers" and "if that doesn't work, reinstall everything" crap. I've got this card sold and I'm happy enough with the Hercules card for now.
