i'm just curious as to why you chose this card. doesn't this card see it's true potential when running at > 4.1 setup?

I use it with both 2.1 and 5.1. The signal to noise ratio is just much better than anything else (in the same price range) and sure sounds much better than the onboard sound I have.

So what has better s/n ratio? I record a lot of vinyl and this is where I notice much less noise. At least my understanding was that using anolog sound, the audigy has much higher s/n, when comparing to soundstorm anyways. No comparison in sound for music, when running through a nice system ( in my experience).

The E-MU 0404m ($100) has according to the E-MU site a s/n ratio of 116dB. The Audigy ZS Platinum Pro ($250) has according to Creative 102 or 108dB s/n, depending on output level. Of course you may not trust the advertised figures. Some E-MU cards have been rightmark-tested on this site (front page a few days ago). I think the published specs from E-MU are accurate.

So are they specialized for music, or can you game with them also? Actually I wouldn't mind a card specialized for quality sound. Around here all you really see at list price are creative and hurcules. Anyways I agree about specs not being always accurate and often only half the story. Often best to just listen.

My Audigy 2 Zs sounds much better than the onboard Realtek sound on my MSI k8N Neo 2 Platinum.

I only use 2.1 , my Logitech Z3 speaker dont warranty the use of a sound card any higher and probably the most important reason is because Creative labs have the best software support for games.

If I was just into PC music id probably look for another sound card and speakers for that matter.

Then again most downloaded music just sounds like crap anyways so I dont see the need to have expensive speakers on my PC....I have a home theater with a pretty nice sound system for music.

dude i have the Z-3's as well, 90% of the time im loving the bass!, could be abit more potent but for the price the rock, the satalites are wicked though, lovely clarity, and i like the bullet style thing in the cone

ive tested these on onboard and on my audigy 2 and i prefere the audigy 2. sounds better, and when you crank it up high, theres no distortion

i would have gotten a 5.1 system but becuase i dont have lots of space here a 2.1 seemed to fit the bill

I quite like the idea of specs. There's more than the s/n ratio of course.

I love my Z3's too, but I don't notice a dramatic difference in sound quality between the onboard sound and my ex Audigy 2 ZS Gamer. So I sold the Audigy and used part of the $$$ to buy a used TBSC.

I'm keeping the Z3's though. :)

I got this card because I didnt want to use my onboard sound. Plus it was 50 bucks after rebate and it came with a few games I've been wanting to play anyways.

You know they are the same company, n'est ce pas?
