Audigy 2 problem - distortion -constant need to re-install drivers

I have an Audigy 2, and it seems every few weeks, I have to re-install the drivers. I will start up Winamp, and there is noticable distortion in the background, no matter what I play. Almost an echo. Reinstalling the drivers fixes this every time, but it seems to reoccur. Any thoughts on what the issue may be?

I would guess it's something to do with the EAX settings. A friend had a similar problem, and it turned out that for some reason EAX was defaulting the "Original sound" to 10%. He also had a ground loop problem due to an improperly wired outlet, so lots of issues but as you described reminded me of the EAX issue.
