Audigy 2 Logitech z-5500

LAst month I purchased this Dell machine. My old speakers were connected via the OPtical cable. My Audigy 2 card that came in this Dell does not support Optical. And my Midiland speakers were old anyways. So I order the Klipsh 5.1 Ultras... Hook em up, and they don't work. I do my homework. and see that tehy have know problems with their amp. So I call up Dell, and return them. But while I am waiting for Dell to pick them up, they decide to work. And they sound great. But I really wanted the Logitech Z-5500 to begin with. So I order them, and set up to return the Klipsch's for credit. Well the Logitech's get here and guess what? No SOund. Now I am a tech, and know all the steps to take to correct this problem. But this time I don't. I tried everything. New drivers, swapping slots, removing re-installing everything... Nothing is muted.. Yadda Yadda Yadda!!!

Still no sound. I get sound from the headphones, just not the speakers.. Not even the speaker test works.

I did have sound once for about 5 minutes, then it stopped. The speakers work, and the sound card seems to work as well...
I have been on this for 2 days, and Am getting to the point where I am starting to think sound is OVER RATED to begin with!!!

And help would be appreciated!

Dan

what are the speakers hooked up with? The mini-jacks or a digital cable? Make sure you select "digital output only" in your sound settings for digital input and vice-versa for analog.

YEah I had made sure of that. Ended up taking the speakers to someone elses's house, and they did not work either. Will return them....

There are many things that can go wrong here. The cabling can be wrong. The setting on the control pod can be wrong. But I suspect its something with your soundcard, provided the cables are connected right. Why? You mentioned that the Klipsch didn't work, then all of a sudden it worked. You should be more specific on what are the steps you did to setup your rig, you being a 'tech' and having 'done your homework' and all that.

You should at least get *some* sound! But keep in mind that the Logitech speakers play best with coax audio, not optical. Which is actually a good thing... all you'll need is one generic $6 RCA/Coax cable from Wal-Mart. And maybe a minijack->RCA adapter if your sound card doesn't have the traditional RCA/Coax connector.
