Audigy 2 is shipping

I just read on the creative labs news group that the Audigy 2 is now shipping and should be showing up in stores in the next few weeks. The only place I have seen that has posted the audigy for sale is Creative Labs itself (though there is no buy button) and www.computers4sure.com, which has it for $5 less ($124.95) than the Creative store does ($129.99). I'm hoping www.newegg.com will have a nicer price, since they have the Extigy for $121 compared to $150 at the Creative store.

Sniffing around online, I'm finding the audigy 2 on smaller websites/stores for about $110-120. 🙂

That would be nice, I haven't seen anything about the Audigy 2 that would make me want to upgrade from a normal audigy. Ofcousre I haven't seen much on it at all.

I have a Hercules Game Theater XP, and I'm not extremely happy with it. Its ok, but the driver support is a bit icky, and the latency on the card sucks. Im looking forward to the Audigy 2. Lots of places have it up for pre-order now, such as Amazon and Buy.com. I also read that its for sale in Asia already. I'm excited, if you can't already tell 😉

i saw audigy 2 platinum for $199 at bestbuy today in fullerton.

well, if you don't like hercules' drivers, then i believe you'll hate creative's. ... bulky... and u gotta have original driver to install new updates?.. jeezus 😛

Hi, I am new to posting here. I believe www.thenerds.net have the Audigy 2 for $108, but do not have the platinum version yet. I am holding out for the platinum version. That is the cheapest that I have found anywhere. NewEgg isn't even close on this one.

At that kind of price (and depending on the processor being used) one might consider a nforce or nforce 2 based motherboard. I doubt it would be quite as good as an audigy 2 but the dolby 5.1 sound in the nforce is very nice and you have to love nvidia's drivers.

I had a game theater xp and I hated it. The damned drivers would "disconnect" from the hardware. It would then do a rediscovery and load default (and WRONG) crystal sound drivers. Very annoying. I also didn't like how it sounded. I quite like the abit nforce board I have.

Just a thot.

No problem. They have a great deal there. I am in NYC and asked www.jandr.com if they would beat the price. They had their's at a much higher price and offered free shipping. They told me that they would only match the shipped price (and they are also in NYC) and they have to add tax. I told them to forget it. Sounds fishy to me that you have to match a price including shipping on an item that you don't charge shipping. Also, isn't the point to BEAT the price? If not, I would rather give my business to the company that cares enough about its customers to regularly offer low prices. I will never shop at J&R again. The funny thing is that theNerds price including shipping was WAY less than Jand R's price with free shipping. What a deal.

I just bought the Audigy 2 Platinum from Best Buy for $199 it comes packaged with Hitman 2 and Soldier of Fortune 2 two games I really wanted anyways! Bonus!! That's were the Bonus's stopped though. I installed it on my trusty Tyan K7 Trinity board, AMD 900, 256 PC133 Kingston SDRAM running Windows 98SE.

Installation of drivers and software caused hang ups and blue screens, random reboots, etc.. Finally got the drivers installed, nice little splash creen came up great sound. Decided to run the little diagnostics test that came with the Audigy 2....it Failed every single test except for the hardware detection. Device manager showed everything running fine and I WAS getting sound. I tried running the Surround mixer, EAX Console, and speaker settings and it would tell me that it either couldn't find a SB card on my system or to install the drivers or software for the program. BS!! Everytime I loaded the software or drivers it said it couldn't find an audigy card. I spent 2 phone calls at 45 mins a piece with the customer support folks...GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE by the way. These people tried everything and they couldn't figure it out either. IT is a brand new card and I was the only one these people had even talked to about the audigy 2(the card had just been released 3 days earlier apparently). I finally said forget it and moved on to XP.

Word to the wise DO NOT UPGRADE XP, you need to re-install the whole damn thing cleanly!!! The installation was giving me problems about the iKernel.exe not being able to install, I got every update from Ishield and XP that I could and still nothing. I finally cleanly installed XP rather than the upgrade that I had done previously and all my problems went away. Creative didn't know anything about the iKernel.exe thing. Anyhow everything works now, but what a pain in the @$$. Unfortuneately when I try to update the audigy drivers off the website, they tell me that I don't have an audigy 2 card...Urgggggh!!!

But now I try to play SOF II and the game locks up on me, I got both patches for SOF II and still nothing. Frustrating. I had a Diamon Multimedia MX400 that worked great on 98se....I'm about ready to return the Audigy 2 Platinum and go back to it....unfortuneaely I heard rumors taht it won't work with XP. I've just about had it.

Its probably your motherboard. I had a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP (now I have a chaintech 7VJL), and I couldn't even get the original audigy to work on it. Was having blue screen problems and the card was not being detected. Tried to install drivers and told me that I didn't have an Audigy installed. I'm about to install my Audigy 2. My room mate is already playing with his and everything is working fine. He is using WinXP. He's a musician, so he is fooling around in music programs right now, getting 4ms latency, which is pretty damn good. He's played a bit of Unreal Tournament 2003, although there is a bit of performance loss using advanced EAX, it sounds great even on his 2.0 speakers. If you need help, go to the Audigy news group, lots of helpful people and posts around there. The server is news.creative.com, and the news group is Products.Sound_Blaster.Audigy

I'll report later on how stuff works out with my system. I have WinXP and a 5.1 sound system, and mainly play games. I'm upgrading from a Hercules Game Theater XP 6.1.
