Audigy 2 hanging system?

I had my new system up and running beautifully for the last 3 days. When I started running into some DVD-movie playback problems (intermittent stuttering and inability to read parts of some discs) I decided to swap out the DVD drive with a new one, which I was waiting to install in my new (and unarrived) case.

When I booted back up, my sound was gone. Everything was set correctly, just no sound. I tried to restart teh computer and it shut down okay but didn't come back on--I had to power off and on manually.

Then, I heard my computer post, but no video. I was starting to have flashbacks about what just happened to my old system.

Then I had no post at all.

After crying in despair for a while, I started disconnecting everything and discharging the CMOS. This didn't work at first, but when I left it set to discharge for a long while, it suddenly booted again.

The first thing to go back in was my Audigy 2 ZS, and it reverted to posting but no video. To fix it, I removed the sound card and discharged the CMOS and it worked again (which seems odd because I hadn't changed any settings).

Any ideas on to what is going on here?

I had it in slot 3 I think. I moved it to slot 2 and had the same problem. Slot one it actually booted into Windows, but it would then hang when the destktop opened.

Just now, after removing it, I got the exact same long beep followed by two short, quick ones during POST. I almost threw up because this is exactly what happened to my last system (athlon XP, Abit AT7-max). If there's something that I'm doing causing this, I need to find out before I destroy anything :(

This was all running so perfectly and there were no abnormal signs. This really sucks :(

Everything seems to be fine until I stick the Audigy in. I was just watching a movie with DTS sound through the thing, it was just fine. What on earth could have started this??

OK... I uninstalled all the creative driver stuff and everything Creative related from the registry. I then installed the card in PCI slot 1, and it booted fine, no hangs, nothing. I then reinstalled the creative software, and the install went fine.

I thought it wouldn't work when the computer was supposed to reset because it never powered back on after shutting down. I manually reset the computer, and then it hung on the Asus boot screen. I reset a SECOND time, and now it has booted into XP and the sound appears to be working, though it's only been on a few minutes. I'm afraid to try restarting my computer! What could be causing this?

My only guess is a software conflict or maybe ESD damage to the Audigy? Any ideas?
