Audigy 2 card in Win7 causes crackling 24/7 ... Driving me insane!

I have an audigy 2 platinum card that causes my speakers to crackle 24/7. Even if nothing is coming out of them they still crackle. I have tried everything I can think of from different PCI slot to different speakers. Even happens in my headphones. Any ideas?

Dang, I remember hearing about a solution years ago.. heh, that helps a lot I know! It was in the settings? 48KHz instead of 96Khz? Don't think it was drivers. Time for a wayback machine, Sherman... "My mind is going, I can feel it Dave"

Not a driver issue? My audigy 2 zs is 6 years old and still going strong.

Running W7 64bit with this:
- Audigy series driver 2.18.0011.10 (latest beta) dated 9/23/2009
no issues (yet)
Download the pack here.

Uninstall anything related to the card before updating just in case.

If you dont want to install the crap in the pack, just manually update the driver from device manager like i did. Point it to the folder where the w7 or vista drivers are.

What drivers have you tried?

its actually gotten worse since the driver update. i hear it in my headphones, speakers, anything i plug into any port really.

@gunbuster
here is a screenshot...doesnt look like it

Try turning down (or back to the left) the hardware performance/accelerator slider for the sound [in Control Panel - Sounds & Audio Devices]. You may be able to use the setting only on the 1st notch setting, but that should be okay & work for most everything.

anyone else? sound driving me cray... no matter what i do its awful. headphones jack in the front and back, digital out, audio out...everything has crackle all the time, whether sound coming out or not

If I remember correctly, playing with the PCI Latency setting in your bios (if you have that option) may help (but probably won't eliminate the problem). Try different settings, 32 - 64 - 96 - 128.

ok, old thread but for some CRAZY reason it magically stopped completely when i moved my parts from my lian li to a POS case i bought 8 years ago.

also, my onboard sound randomly started working perfectly too.

i hate to admit it, but i have to call user error on this. humbling noob moment.
