Audigy 2 and Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia Speaker Issue...

I don't know where to turn so this is my last place to find a solution.

I recently upgraded from a Live 5.1 to a Audigy 2 and upgraded my speakers from a Klipsch 2.4 to a 5.1 ProMedia. Expecting the sound quality and volume to be much better, the upgrade did the opposite...

The sound is bareable for the most part, Music sounds low and other effects sounds are low.

The sound is not as loud as the 2.4, however its much clearer.

My problem lies with the MOVIES... Everytime I play a MPG movie, DVD Movie, or any other sort of movie types, the sound is very quiet. I have to blast my volume level to 60 to listen at a reasonable rate.

The bass tends to be too loud in that issue. It just the MID and HIGHS are very LOW...

I'm probably sure there isn't any hardware issues involved here since everything sounds fine, just not as loud as my old setup.

The sound is even lower when playing movies... So can anyone with any knowledge regarding this, please shed some light into this...

Can it be the EAX thing, my configuration, or what?

Its really bothering me, since my investment wasn't what I expected to be.

Thanks.

Not sure if this applies to you or not. Klipsch has a known issue with their promedia's in which one of the amps will blow. You'll know this happens when you can hear clearly through headphones (when in that mode) and you can hear bass just fine but the remaining 5 speakers cut in and out and then finally just out.

I'm currently returning my second set of PM 5.1's because of this. If this issue applies to you it should be very apparent, otherwise it's something else.

I just went from a Live 5.1 to an Audigy 2 myself. Before the amp let loose it was working great. Klipsch is supposed to have fixed this issue but you may have gotten one of the old amps.

I doubt its the hardware as well. I use a audigy 2 plat with Promedia 4.1's and its great. I also don't think it's an EAX issue since EAX, IIRC, is just for 3D positioning in games.

The Audigy 2 control panels and levels are all over the place. Chances are you have some levels a that are low.
First check the windows sound control panel. Make sure the speakers are set to 5.1's. XP likes to keep resetting this on me for some reason to desktop speakers (2 + sub). Then check the volume levels in the control panel as well. There are different settings for audio source inputs. Make sure the settings aren't too low. Especially a DVD volume setting. Check the audio preferences in the DVD player software. Make sure it is set to 5.1 surround and the levels are fairly high.

As for other things to check into, not really bearing on your DVD audio issue but everything in general. Just make sure all your levels are correct . Also go into the audigy control panels and make sure your channels are setup correctly.

btw putting the master volume up to 60% should be near deafening at close range. My speakers only go over 60% when I want to hear the music on my computer out on my deck. In fact, at the main computer volume at 100% and the speaker volume at 60%, I can hear my music fairly clearly 100 yards down the street. 😛
