I try to never update Creative drivers unless I see tons of posts from different people saying they helped. Creative has always has piss poor driver support if you ask me.

A really nice combo to use and one that provides vastly improved audio quality is to first install the PAX new year's modded drivers from here:

Then install those beta drivers over them.

As to OpenAL support, I think not. In Pariah it borks the sound completely when selected.
