I am looking for the pinout of the internal SB1394 connector on my Audigy. I bought an Antec 880 case and it has a front firewire port, but I need to hook it up to a firewire connection and my Audigy has a SB1394 connector. I am hoping someone has a document on this as I want to be able to use the front firewire port as well as the rear port. I have already scoured Google to no avail and Creative doesn't seem to be very forcoming with the information on their site.

Thanks

so far my response from creative:

<< The front 1394 controller was probably used for a special port for another card. I strongly advise you not to attempt to use the front ports with the audigy card. The port on the sound card is used for the audigy drive which provides a front 1394 port. >>

i'm interested in this too :)

Yeah, I have a 1080 and it looks like the front port was designed to run off of a on-board firewire connector. I'm trying to figure out how to use mine also as my firewire card doesn't have any internal pins. I'd be interested in some input here also.

basically what i am requesting for creative is the pin layout for the firewire port... nothing else... hopefully they'll get it to me but i don't know...
just out of curiosity because i don't have the case yet (this is for my computer that i am building during the summer...) what does the connector look like in the case? is it similar to a usb ports that connect to the mobo?

thanks guys, and i'm working on it from the creative side.

I don't have my digital camera right now or post some pics for you. The firewire port on the front of the case comes with a cable connected. The other end of the cable has 6 wires with connectors to connect to the (according to documentation) "IEEE1394 port on your motherboard." This is where I'm running into problems. My firewire card doesn't have any internal pins to connect to and I don't have onboard firewire on my Abit KR7A-RAID.

ok sry guys but of course creative wasn't any help... figured that... here is their response, stupid bastards only thinking about themselves and their stupid drive:

<< The pin layout is not available. The connector on the card is only supported in conjunction with the Audigy Drive's that ship with the Platinum kits. >>

i guess we'll probably have to ask someone who knows a bit more, maybe we can find a hardware site that'll help us out, cuz it would be a nice thing to have...

I wrote Creative as well and have yet to hear from them. Well if comes to it a friend with a multimeter should be able to resolve this isssue ;) I'm really surprised that no one has posted any info on any other websites as the port is labled SB1394 indicating it should be a standard firewire port no matter what Creative says.

Did anybody find the pin layout? I just got a new case, and I'm interested in the same thing.

Found this while browsing Creative newsgroup and remembered this thread:

I am all but certain that this is the correct pinout for the Audigy's
internal 9-pin sb1394 connector. I ended up taking a guess at the
polarity on the A/B +/- pins, got it on the second guess. (No smoke,
no foul). I'm assuming VP is correct at pins 7 & 8, as they are tied
together and are the only pins remaining after the other 5 signals are
accounted for.

My minidv cam works perfectly over my Antec case's front-panel
firewire port (wired as per the following info) using a standard 6/4
cable. Since it is a 4-pin cable, VP is not being used -- I could be
wrong on it, but don't see how. So, use this at your own risk.
Wait for Creative to unearth the pinout if you want to play it safe.
That said, it works for me. :)

1 3 5 7 9 (3/4/9 are tied)
2 4 6 8 x (7/8 are tied)

1 tpa-
2 tpa+
3 vg/gnd
4 vg/gnd
5 tpb-
6 tpb+
7 vp/power
8 vp/power
9 vg/gnd
x (no pin)

That was it. Thanks Inge. Have they worked out for sure they are all the
correct assignments? Cheers;

No, but I'm 99.9% certain. Or, let me put it this way: I am 100% certain
of all pins, except for 7&8 being VP -- and if they're not VP, then VP
simply isn't present. Which is unthinkable, but not impossible, hence
the 99.9%. :)

Out of the dozen or so people who've emailed me, there have been nothing
but successes so far (everything from minidv cams to hard drives to
pc/pc 1394 networking). Eh, make that 99.999999...

I have not tried this myself, so try at your own risk...

I have the audigy platinum and there is a black cable which goes from the 1394 pin outs to the audigy drive. I believe THAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY labled on the breakout box so I'll open up my computer for you later today and take a look. I might be able to get it for you.

Sorry, man. I checked the audigy drive and it's not labelled internally. The pins on the cable itself are colour coded if that helps.

i just tried setting up my antec case and it worked without a hitch with my usb device... the only thing i am unsure of because my device uses a 4pin connector is the power issue... i have to just assume (i hate doing that) that it is correct, but my sony dv camera worked flawlessly with it set up like was posted here, but since the # of pins for the antec case is diff the exact way i set it up is a follows:

1 3 5 7 9
2 4 6 8 X

1 TPA -
2 TPA +
3 VG
4 Empty
5 TPB -
6 TPB +
7 VP
8 Empty
9 Empty
X No Pin

i am waiting to hopefully get the colors that 7757524 has on her live drive so that i can possibly check the normal color codes to see if the power plugs are correct...
hopefully that will get done :) if they are willing

thanks for the help guys

Josh
