I think for fun I am going to head over to the Audi dealer and drive a few cars since you guys seem to think they are great cars.
I went to the Honda place and they let me take any car.
I went to the BMW place and they let me take any car over the weekend.
I went to the Acura place, and the guy gets in the car with me and tells me where to drive the car.
I was not impressed with the car either.
I love Hondas, but I expected more in an Acura..and didn't get it.
It was just like my Honda.

I wonder how the Audi salesmen will be.

I had same experience.

In my experience:

Audi dealers let you drive it alone
Acura dealers tag along :|
A ford dealer let us take a car for the weekend
Chevy let us go out alone.
Nissan let us go at it alone
Infiniti tags along like acura :|

They let you take cars alone and even for the weekend?? Damn...over here in Toronto at most dealerships, the salesman gets in the car with you and gives you the route you should follow! No one ever lets you take the car alone much less keep it for the weekend. Hell at the Infiniti dealership they wouldn't even let us test drive teh Q45 saying that you had to put a deposit in order to buy it. Which was BS, we could clearly see through the guy's face..he thought we couldn't afford it and just wanted to test it for the hell of it...well he was right.

*sigh* it would have been nice to sit inside a $80k car while its moving.

Same thing happened at the Nissan dealership when we went to go look for a Maxima, the guy kept on setting us towards a Sentra thinking we couldn't afford it. Well he didn't get a sale from us and needless to say, he doesn't work there anymore either.

I think the only Dealers who have pissed me off more than Acura dealers, are the Nissan Dealers.
They wanted me to fill out a credit application.
I said, "I'm paying cash."
They said I had to anyway.
I said, "Bye."

My worst experience was at an Audi dealership. My sister had hear mind set on the A6, so we stopped by Audi dealership last. We wanted to test drive other cars and see how it compares to the A6 before buying it. We went to BMW, Acura, Honda, and Infiniti before going to Audi. We basically stand around the car lot for about 15 mins being ignored. When they finally noticed my display of disguist at their service, one of worker there came up to us and ask if we needed help. So, I told her we wanted to test drive the A6. She said, a sales rep will be right with us. 10 mins later, still no service. 45 minutes later, we drove by Audi dealership in a spanking new BMW 330i waving goodbye to them.

Are you saying it took only 45 minutes to buy a car? (less than 30 if you subtract the drive/greet time when you went back to BMW)

Funny, but the fastest I've ever had it done was three hours.

I've taken cars home for the weekend before, albeit, they were used, and worth under 10k, but that's pretty cool of a dealership to do for a 21 year old kid :)

As for the Audi dealers, I had ZERO problems taking a brand spanking new '01 A4 fully loaded out for a an extended spin. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon, the saleswoman pulled the car up for me, had the heated seats fired up, shook my hand, and told me to stay out of trouble and that they close at 6:00 PM :)

I've never been to a dealership that would let me testdrive alone (probably because I'm 22), not to mention keep the car! Do you know how many miles you could put on that sucker if you had it for a weekend? That would seriously impact the vehicle's price!

The BMW dealership is literally right next door. I don't know where you live, but in California most of the dealerships tend to be all in one huge place. And since her fiance bought the same exact car from the same exact guy two weeks ago, we didn't bother to negotiate because both parties know where we'll end up with in price. All we had to do was sign the papers and leave.

On yours I'd say. If you wanted help that bad, why didn't you just flag a salesperson down? I find that the average car salesperson or any salesperson for that matter won't bother unless you look like money. But if you really wanted help, just ask them and the better salespeople will help you. If they are a$$holes about it, just get a different person.

Yep, in Greensboro, NC on Wendover Avenue there are about 25 dealerships lining about a 2 mile stretch of road. Everyone from Audi, Mercedes, Chrysler, BMW, SAAB, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.

I walked up to 2 salesmen.
They both said they would not talk to me until I filled out a credit application.
I told them I would be paying cash for a Maxima.

When I drove the Z3 6 cylinder(before the M version was out) the salesman went along but that was all. He said nothing when I found out how fast I could hit 100.:)
