Wow!

VW already owns Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini. Just imagine if they added Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa to that list???

Reminds me of that quote from Snatch:

Turkish: "What's that?"
Tommy: "A gun. For protection."
Turkish: "Against what? Ze Germans???"

Are all these luxury brands profitable? Or is VW just doing this for the prestige?

Ferrari is profitable. Bentley probably is too. I can't comment on the rest, at least during a recession. During the dot-com boom, I'm sure they all were.

BTW, the Maserati Kubang concept is a total travesty IMO. It looks like it should be on a Kia lot.

I believe BMW owned Bentley until the beginning of 2003, then VW took over. I saw it on the history channel.

VW owned Bentley and Rolls Royce until January 1, 2003, at which time BMW took ownership of Rolls.
