Audi R8 vs. Porsche Carrera 4S

Tiff Needell pits the stunning Audi R8 against the Porsche Carrera 4S, in this Fifth Gear video.

Which car won?

On style alone, the R8 is a hands down winner...Porsche is old style.:)

Wow! The Audi R8 is living up to the hype. Awesome car...would love to drive it but don't have the moolah to shell out for a chance to try it...Text

Why is it not compared to the GT3? The GT3 is in the R8's price range. the Carerra4s is so much cheaper. For the same price, the Carrera4s could come with something not available on the R8 as an option, namely, a Mini Cooper.

That's quite a hefty difference.

they picked the R8, but barely. the cars are fairly evenly matched according to 5th Gear.

there was another comparison with the GT3 RS and everyone preferred the R8. just can't remember what auto mag it was

Audi wants $600 to drive the R8 and the RS4 at their driving experience shows. You can sit in the demo cars that they have for free, though, and get a ride with a pro driver if you're the "most improved" driver at their free driving course.

If you listen closely, you'll hear them say that this particular Carerra 4S is equipped with the Carrera Power Kit. That's a $16,900 option bringing the Carrera 4S close to $110,000 with minimal options and right in line with the R8 at $109,000.

It's a pretty fair comparison in my book except for the fact that I doubt very seriously that more than a few Carrera 4S's are ever ordered with the optional power kit.

Agreed, kudos to Audi for successfully taking on the icon of sports cars. Also, a very smart pricing decision by Audi in pricing the R8 right in line with the top tier normally aspirated 911s, but far enough below the 911 Turbo to make the comparison seem unreasonable.

Of course, if Audi follows up with an RS8 using the engine in the RS6 Avant (which I think is pretty likely), then 911 Turbo drivers better start watching their rearview mirrors.
