1.) Ok...?
2.) Yes, but that's kinda the point of this setup.
3.) And it still handles better than most of the vehicles in its class. Of course its going to be slower, its getting close to 10 years old now, and has not had much change to its drivetrain. It was never meant to be a sports car competing with V-8s and porky sports cars like the 370Z. You wouldn't buy a Miata for its power, and that's the same case here. Admittedly, a turbo 4 cylinder would probably have been a better option for the RX-8.

I think this is a good pairing, but I'm not sure that it would be much better than a small gas engine or a turbine. I would agree that as the main propulsion, rotary just is a pointless endeavor in light of how things are starting to change, and with gas engines still progressing (in fact, in the last several years, seems like they've progressed more than they have in a very long time), it just makes more sense to either develop them or put the money into developing turbines.

Sorry, you aren't going to get anyone to believe an RX-8 is good for anything.

There are plenty of cars out there that handle better than the -8, with more power, and more efficiency. The RX-8 was an attempt to get rotary fan boys back in the game and....they failed.

It wasn't too terrible when it came out 10 years ago but it's far short of what's out there now. If they had done a turbocharged engine they would have had a far more competitive car.

What a load of hate you spill. :hmm:

The RX-8 has been praised by many for much. That you don't like it means little, IMHO. I'd certainly like your list of cars that handle better than the RX-8.

EDIT: It was launched in 2004, how people are getting '10 years' out of that, I'd like to know!

on a radial engine the block is fixed and the crank rotates. on a rotary engine it's the other way around. rotary engines and radial engines look similar when not running.

I think I understand now. The term rotory was used before the wankel rotory.

lol yes it was slow when it came out and it's still slow now. All it does it look good and handle well. It's a gas guzzling, oil burning, unreliable, slowpoke. Also like said above, it's NOT 10yrs old.
