Competition is always a good thing!

A petition? Seriously? What is Audi thinking? How about some sort of a downpayment, so they know how many would actually buy the car?

Lol. Anonymous online petitions are the best (for abuse).

If they took the petition seriously, one automaker with direct effect on the products another sells - hilarious!

A FWD platform Golf with a fancy body isn't a sports car!! The Audi TT is for suckers.

I hope you're kidding. Just because it's underpinnings are related to a more pedestrian car does not make this crap. It's an outstanding car. Even the regular TT-S...Car and Driver had a lightening lap competition and they were seriously surprised how well the TT-S did around the track..and how easy it was to get good times with it on the track. I'd own one in a heartbeat.

The TTRS isn't FWD (the TTS isn't either). And performance wise, I'd rather have AWD a majority of the time.

AWD has carrying costs with it; more weight, more complexity, etc. For all-year performance-oriented cars (and you live where it gets cold) it's very nice. Probably not a lot of people will be driving their TT RSs in the winter though.

Personally, RWD is more fun than AWD IMHO.

If they don't allow a proper gearbox in the US version - they can keep the fail.

I don't believe they have the "proper gearbox" in Europe either. This is a DCG car only...just like the RS5 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). That being said, I'm mellowing in my "old" age and I'd get over it. I really enjoyed driving the E92 M3 with a DCT around the track. If I was just getting a track car, I'd seriously consider the DCT over the manual. As a daily driver though...I want my manual.

Oh I agree, RWD is more fun than AWD. However, AWD drive cars (EVOs and STIs) usually dominate in the autocross events I go to.

My only issue with the TTS (not sure how the TTRS is) is the gearbox. I don't mind a DCT at all.. but the one in the TTS would shift for you if you were approaching redline.. which would mess up your shifting when on the track. I'd hope the TTRS is more akin to the R8's DCT.

Agreed...the transmission should not be shifting for you if the car is designed for any kind of track usage.

AFAIK, the Quattro system in the TT RS is the same old Haldex they've always had-- FWD until the front wheels slip. That means it handles and feels like a FWD car until you actually lose traction. If you want a sports car, buy a sports car, not a TT.

Audi TT RS
The 2009 Audi TT RS shamelessly presses the emotive Quattro buttons despite being something of a technical oddity at Audi because of its front transverse engine and the use of a Haldex all-wheel-drive system. It has the brand-new, turbocharged, direct-injected 2.5-liter inline-5, which sounds like a digitally remastered version of the original Quattro coupe's engine, only with a harder edge. This is a seriously fast little coupe. The turbo-5 pushes out 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque and it has only 3,197 pounds with which to contend, so 60 mph comes up in just 4.5 seconds. This is an angry, hard-core little car and it thumps across the ground at a frightening pace.

In practice the TT RS feels just like a front-driver with astonishing traction, as the rear wheels are there essentially only to stop the bodywork from dragging along the road. It's a mighty effective piece with masses of mechanical grip and immense performance, but don't expect much entertainment or any interactivity. It bounces and bumps when the pavement turns rough, the steering is heavy, dull and a bit sticky, and while the brakes are superb they don't have an ounce of subtlety. The TT RS sort of bludgeons its way from A to B, beating you up in the process.

Cool, more pretentious dbags to give buyer's remorse to on the way to work. Best one so far was some w12 who didnt want to pull up next to me anymore.

whoever had the W12 was an idiot. despite the W12 being a pretty slick engine (albeit rare and overly complicated compared to the lambo-sourced V10), you're still dragging around an A8 at the end of the day. no way it's going to compete with a termi.

i also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know the difference between your mustang and a regular one.

Yeah it takes a special kind of douchebag to drive around like an asshat abusing a luxary boat revving at and starting a drag race fight with a purpose built balls out performance car. Im seeing less bmws doing it and more audis doing it lately. I don't get why someone with a what $60,000+ car needs to prove anything, especially vs a car half the cost.
