I'm looking to purchase a car for my wife and came across a great deal. The car is 1997 Audi Cabriolet with relatively low mileage (62K) and is fully loaded.. Electronic convertable top, no dents, leather interior and an engine that looks like it has no wear on it. It passed all Carfax reports and was owned by 1 high income individual that has barely driven it.

Asking price is $7500. I'm fairly sure that the vehicle will pass everything when my mechanic checks it out, but I'm wondering about maintenance costs. The car originally retailed for over 38k.. I'm not sure if the high maintenance costs are worth service expendetures, especially if they are really high..

Here is a similiar car.. The one I looked at was dark blue

62k is nothing for that car.....it will go on for a hell of a lot longer.

Audi seems to be one of the german marques that hasnt had a bout of build quality issues like Mercedes had (and is now recovering from) and it seems BMW are also having a few build quality issues with interiors if reviews are anything to go by.

you wont find your self having to do repairs, or much other maintanence other than the usual service and MOT etc. Audi's are very nice cars, and even the older ones are built like tanks, thats a good buy, and a nice car, and should serve you well

just think....when was the last time you saw and Audi at the side of the road with the RAC man under the hood?

Princess Diana used to drive one.

Finally got rid of my A6 -- was in the shop almost once a month for the past two years. This obviously got very expensive.

still a stylish car though, despite its age

Well sure - they look great and can be quite luxurious, but I wouldn't touch an Audi of that vinatge with a 10 foot pole.

The thing with Audis is you either have problems, or it runs great for a ton of miles. If you buy used and the cars history looks clean it will stay that way. So you'll have a great car with little problems. My parents '84 Audi 5000 was in the shop less than their sentra and the worst car ever an '03 camry.

Thank you, captain obvious. Yes it's true: if your car doesn't have problems ever then it runs for a long time.

Audis are not very reliable cars, though they have gotten better since '04. If you are looking for a realiable vehicle, a 97 audi anything is unlikely to fit the bill. I say this as an Audi owner.

That is a pretty car. I'd buy it IF:

1) I lived in a warm area.
2) Had an extra $2,500 ready for any repairs that the car might need. Audi's are nice cars, but they aren't cheap to fix or maintain.

Purchased a brand new Passat...

Figured hey it has warranty so I'll be safe.

I got rid of the car a month later

Check Engine light came on twice but went away when I turned off car and started it again.. dealership told me to just bring it next time and not turn off the car.
Speakers Rattled (no dealership fix).
Loud noise from the rear wheels/tires

The peddles are way too close to each other but I shouldn't complain since I bought it knowing this.
